3 July 2020
On July 3, the new exhibition opened in Underground Museum as part of cycle #three_. The exposition is dedicated to the work of Ilya Glazunov, Russian painter, founder of the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In June 2020 we celebrate the 90th anniversary of the artist.

Выставка Глазунова

By the project tradition, in the center of the new exposition in Underground Museum – three paintings by the master:  “Dostoevsky. Night”(1985), “The Legend of Tsarevich Demetrius”(1991) and “Ivan the Terrible”(1999). These works reveal the main themes in the work of Glazunov: the tragic moments of Russian history and the emotional world of Fyodor Dostoevsky.

“These are exhibits from the Glazunov Gallery on Volkhonka. A work of particular interest is the painting “The Legend of Tsarevich Demetrius”. The visitors of the exhibition need to pay attention to the artist’s style, which he developed in the 60s. In addition to the painting technique, he used various materials as inlays: 17th-century fabrics, semiprecious stones, pearls – all this enhances the emotional impact on the viewer,”said Polina Shabanova, chief curator of Ilya Glazunov Gallery.

The multimedia part of the exhibition introduces the biography of the artist. You will see famous works, book illustrations and theatrical works, get acquainted with the history of Ilya Glazunov Gallery and learn more about the public activity of Ilya Glazunov: the founding of the Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture, the Museum of Russian Estates.

The exposition includes fragments of documentaries with the participation of Glazunov, where he talks about his work, and shots of a theatrical production for which he created the scenery.

The exhibition will work in Underground Museum until July 19. Tickets are available on the website, in the mobile application or via interactive terminals of the park. For your safety, during the period of restrictive measures, Underground Museum has developed temporary rules for visitors. Please find the rules here.
