Some plants of Zaryadye park confused warm December with spring: spiraea got green leaves sprouted, lilac buds started swelling, and primrose blossomed under Glass Crust.

“Due to abnormally warm and snowless weather, primrose began to blossom. This usually happens in April. Now we see a rare case when blossoming takes place in winter. When the snow falls and covers the plants, they will calmly pass the winter and continue to bloom in April,” said Yevgeny Sapunov, deputy head of the Environmental protection and gardening department.
Primrose has several names, one of which appeared thanks to a legend. It tells how the apostle Peter learned that the fallen angels made a copy of the key to the gates of heaven. It scared Peter, and he dropped the real key out of his hands. The key fell on the ground and turned into a beautiful flower. That’s why people call this tender yellow flower “heaven key”, “key of St. Peter” or “golden keys”.
Other plant names are primula veris, cowslip, common cowslip, cowslip primrose.
Come to Zaryadye and take a photo of the blooming primrose.
