The art object of Mikhail Tsaturyan in the form of a mythical monster was installed as part of the exhibition of the 1 Moscow Art Prize nominees.
The object supplemented the exposition of modern art works presented at viewpoints, in the pavilions and in the exhibition hall of the park.
According to legend, Kraken is a giant cephalopod that could drag down the ocean even a powerful warship with its tentacles. #KRAKEN by Mikhail Tsaturyan seems to float into the Moskva River; it is covered with labels of products that pollute the oceans on an industrial scale: plastic, lithium, aluminum.
According to the artist, the art object encourages to think about the destructive power of the humanity and its impact on nature. If we imagine that the Kraken consists of all the garbage that is now floating in the world's oceans, then the strength and scale of this creature could sink even the largest modern ship.
In my works, I try to touch social themes not only because it is relevant in modern society, but primarily because I see it as my personal problem and responsibility. You need to start with yourself, and that is why, among other logos, there is mine on the Kraken as a reminder of the need to sort garbage and sustainable consumption. I hope my work will make people think about saving the planet, or at least about bringing garbage to the nearest trash bin next time,” said Mikhail Tsaturyan.
#KRAKEN is part of the Inflatable Candies project, a collection of minimalist animal sculptures. The shapes of the characters have been simplified so much that they have only a few details that let us guess the prototype. Each work draws attention to a specific social problem. The collection was presented at the PULSE Art Fair in Miami in 2019. The sculpture #KRAKEN was created in 2020 by the order of Andrey Levin for the #DARKART gallery and is shown for the first time. In 2021, it will be presented at the Burning Man festival.
