You will learn about the trade process on the territory of Kitay-Gorod, find out how merchants, and businessmen lived in the 15th-19th centuries, and see an ancient treasure and the items found during archaeological excavations.
The Chambers of the Old English Court are one of the oldest buildings in the capital. This monument of civil architecture was erected at the beginning of the XVI century and its history is closely connected with the history of Zaryadye, with the origin and formation of Russian-English relations, which flourished during the reign of Tsar Ivan IV and Queen Elizabeth I. In 1555, the Moscow Trading Company was established in London, which in 1556 received a courtyard in Moscow on Varvarka Street as a gift from Ivan the Terrible.
In 1994, with the participation of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, a museum was opened in the walls of the ancient chambers.
In the Upper Chambers, you will see how the life of English merchants and entrepreneurs of the XVI–XVII centuries was organized, what they imported and exported from Russia, and how trade was organized.
A mono—exhibition has been opened in the Basement of the Old English Courtyard - an exposition of one iconic object, a historical curiosity artifact surrounded by a halo of facts and fictions. The white stone basement, whose walls remember the events of the 16th century, is today a modern art gallery that reveals the stories of people and events from different eras.
