Avant-garde for Everyone!

5 February 2020
The second exhibition of the project #three has opened in Underground Museum. It is dedicated to the work of one of the key masters of the Russian avant-garde, Aristarkh Lentulov.

In the center of the exhibition there are three paintings: “Greek. A Sketch of the Fresco” (1910), “Portrait of M. P. Lentulova in a Blue Dress” (1913) and “Portrait of M. P. Lentulova next to a birch” (1914–1915). Aristarkh Lentulov is one of the founders of the Russian reformers association, the Jack of Diamonds group, which brought up many avant-garde movements. The exposition introduces the works created by the artist during his active work in the association. The main principle of Lentulov’s paintings at this period, as he defined himself, is a color dynamics.

The works displayed in Underground Museum belong to the artist's family. They were transferred to the exposition by the great-grandson of the avant-garde artist — artist Fyodor Lentulov. Visitors can see four of his landscapes at the exhibition.

Three innovative paintings are complemented by archival materials, telling about the artist's life and periods of his work. The multimedia part of the exposition includes a fragment of the film “The Artist of the Sun Aristarkh Lentulov” by Leonid Schwartz.

“Recently we have demonstrated the works of contemporary artists, and now we are talking about the Russian avant-garde. In the frames of the project #three_ the artistic directions and names will change, but each time the viewer will see the quintessence of artist’s creativity. The rules of the “fast date” are still the same: there are three art objects in front of you, supplemented by multimedia,”said Ivan Demidov, the director of Zaryadye park.
