On September 29th the first in Zaryadye exhibition was opened. It’s devoted to one of the farthest and least known about regions of our planet – the Arctic.
In the exhibition hall located on the lower ground of the Media Center you can see unique showpieces – household items, equipment from the expeditions to the Arctic, a yaranga (traditional housing of the inhabitants of the North) and an unusual natural phenomenon – the northern lights. On a holographic multimedia 2.5-meter screen a projection of a night sky with polar lights of different colors was created. Next to it there are video materials explaining the nature of this phenomenon.
"With the ‘Russian Arctic’ exposition we are starting the first exhibition season in Zaryadye. The exposition will be available for Moscow citizens and guests of the capital from September 29th to February 18th", — said the park director Pavel Trekhleb.
One of most interesting showpieces is the exact copy of a tent that once belonged to Ivan Papanin, a famous soviet explorer of the Arctic. In the tent you can see the traveler’s clothing and equipment, his primus stove and even the cup he used to drink from. Here anybody can try themselves as a radio operator – send a message using the Morse code via a special apparatus.
Apart from the copies here you will also find objects that were brought by scientists from real expeditions to the Arctic. Among those – tents, technical equipment, research instruments and clothing of the polar explorers from the Barneo ice base. This camp was established in 2000 near the North Pole. Drawings by travelers Fedor Konukhov and Fedor Reshetnikov were also included in the arctic exposition as well as photos of some bright moments from polar expeditions.
For our young guests we've got a polar station where you can draw polar animals, icebreakers, drifting stations and then animate those drawings. We have also produced five thousand postcards on which children can write their wishes and send them right there – for that we have placed a real mailbox in our exhibition hall.
The "Russian Arctic" project was created in association with "ROSIZO", Russian Geographical Society, Russian Museum of Ethnography, Russian State Arctic and Antarctic Museum, State Archive of the Russian Federation, Russian State Film and Photo Archive, Russian State Navy Archive, philatelist and deltiology unions.
The exposition is open from 2 pm to 8 pm on Mondays and from 10 am to 8 pm from Tuesday to Sunday. Tickets are 250 rubles. Tickets at reduced rates are available for various categories of citizens.
