(Betula pine)

In Russia, this small variety of birch is sometimes called a ‘yornik’, ‘slate birch’ or ‘yeroi’. This birch is a source of botulin and betulinic acid, a substance widely used in cosmetics. Also the volatile organic compounds called phytonicides, produced by the birch tree, can be used to combat the harmful staphylococcus microbe.
