This undistinguished yellow flower is named in honor of a knight of the Malta order, the formidable Austrian military leader of the 19th century, Franz de Paul Adam von Waldstein. In between battles with the Turks, the Count’s hobby was botany. He travelled a lot in Hungary and collected plant samples. He co-authored a three volume work titled “Descriptions and Pictures of the Rare Plants of Hungary” and left his rich botanical collection to the Czech Museum in Prague.
