European Bistort

(Polygonum bistorta)

The Bistort is widely distributed in the tundras, forests and steppes throughout the Northern Hemisphere. It forms thickets in peatbogs and moist floodplain meadows. The leaves of the European bistort and its young shoots are edible. In the tundra, it is an important forage plant for reindeers.
