Breckland thyme

(Thymus serpyllum)

Aside from thyme’s culinary function it also holds ceremonial meaning for certain ethnic groups. The Khakas people of Southern Siberia use it in the ritual ‘alas’, in which they used smoke from burning thyme to disinfect and drive away evil spirits from livestock, households and other property.
